Purchases & safe retries
Your partnerReference is the purchase identity. Persist it before sending an order and reuse it when the outcome is uncertain.
One reference per intended purchase
A reference is case-sensitive, 1–100 characters, using letters A–Z/a–z, digits, dots, underscores, colons, or hyphens. Purchase accepts only partnerReference and sku; it does not require an Idempotency-Key header.
An identical replay returns the original order with replayed: true. Reusing the reference with a changed SKU returns HTTP 409 / code 6220. Do not use per-request random variables for this value.
Recover an uncertain outcome
After a timeout, disconnect, or unexpected server error, keep the original reference and request body. Look up GET /orders/by-reference/{partnerReference}. If the outcome remains unknown, replay the same purchase body. A new reference would mean a new purchase.
Follow the order state
PROCESSING: fulfillment is unresolved, including orders awaiting review. Respect pollAfterSeconds. COMPLETED: fulfillment succeeded; read the credentials from the order detail. FAILED: the order has reached its failed terminal state. Stop automatic polling on a terminal state.
Use supportReference and requestId when escalating a long-running order to GiftU. Final-sale products can remain PROCESSING for review; do not assume an unresolved order can be refunded or repurchased.
